What a beautiful day today! We've had so much rain and dreary weather, that any remote sign of sunlight makes me happy! In fact, it was so pretty today, I decided to get out of the office for lunch. Guess where I headed? Not Taco Bell. Not McDonald's. Not Burger King.....Ulta! Yay! :-)
When I got there, I made a bee-line straight towards the polishes. On the display case where I usually find the new OPI collections I saw this:
(This picture was taken after I purchased my first 2 polishes, before I purchased my next 3!!!)
Now, I know I only started "obsessing" over nail polish (specifically OPI) less than a year ago, but I think I have a pretty good knowledge of current colors, new collections, retired shades, upcoming collections, etc. This color, however, was completely new to me (hence the reason why I immediately got out my iPhone and took a picture!). I decided to get 2 "Black Satin's", along with a "Gargantuan Green Grape" (gotta love the Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale!).
When I got in my car after leaving the store, I thought to myself, "This could be completely gone if I needed to come back and get more (to swap, sell, gift, etc.), I should go back in and get three more!" So, that's exactly what I did (this time, however, I remembered to use my $3.50 off coupon!). I believe these displays only hold 8 bottles. I purchased 5. You do the math.
From the little research I've done on this polish, it looks like it was originally released (maybe a limited release?) back in 2004 (I think I read that somewhere...). Anyways, the one picture I found of the bottom of the bottle has black lettering, which means it's probably an original bottle. As you can see from my pictures below, this is a new bottle, and includes a serial number on the label as well as an engraved serial number on the bottle (again, meaning it's not an old bottle. OPI brought this color back!).
I loved the color in the bottle, and loved it even more on my nails! It reminds me of the review I did with "Suzi Ski's in the Pyrenee's - Suede" with a top coat. Remember that one? If not, you can see it here.
Application:
OPI Chip Skip
1 coat OPI Nail Envy, Soft & Thin Formula
2 coats of OPI's "Black Satin"
1 coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat
OPI Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops
All of these (minus the last one) are with flash:

Regardless of what the weather's like where you're at, ENJOY your weekend. And,
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY (a couple days early) to all you amazing moms out there! :-)
My mom's in France even as I type this post, so I won't have her here to celebrate. And on top of that, her birthday is May 9th (the day after Mother's Day), so she'll miss BOTH holidays! Guess we'll just have to celebrate when she returns next week! If/When you ever read this, I LOVE YOU, MOM!
Love it! I just found Suzi Ski's in the Pyrenee's - Suede at my Ulta on clearance yesterday! So glad I bought it. I will probably buy this too if I find it.
ReplyDeleteWow great color. Must add to my wish list...
ReplyDeleteYou found it on CLEARANCE?!?! LUCKY! I bought it full price, but it was one that was totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteI saw that someone else had seen a display of "Black Satin" at their local Ulta recently, too. I wonder what other colors OPI is going to "bring back"?!?!
I saw this at my Ulta too. Its nice, reminds me of gunmetal. Like Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.
ReplyDeleteI was at Ulta yesterday, I KNEW I should have gotten this! Beautiful pics!
ReplyDeleteVery yummy, I loveeee! :D
ReplyDeleteHi Katie ! Great review, as always. I really like this color, I hope it won't be too difficult to find in Quebec. I have a request for you, if it's not too much to ask. Could you please make a comparison of Black Satin and Lucerne-Tainly look Marvelous (like Black Satin on one finger and LTLM on the next finger ) ? I would like to see if there is a difference once it's on the nails. Have a nice evening !
ReplyDeleteSure, no problem! But I will say this, Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous is more of a micro-glitter polish. I'd also desribe it as foil-like. I heard someone describe "Black Satin" as more of a frost polish. I don't think it's overly frosty. It's kind of a gray-black frost, if that makes any sense. But yes, I can do swatches tomorrow (if I have time)!
ReplyDeleteHiHi! You've been tagged with this award, I don't know where to contact you do I'ma just post it here: http://cosmetologyy.blogspot.com/2011/05/kreativ-blogger-award.html
ReplyDeletewow i really like this!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful colour! i adore it. any chance you'd like to swap one of those extra bottles you picked up for me? i asked at my trade secrets in toronto and they said they highly doubt we'll be getting any up here in canada! :(
ReplyDeleteso let me know if there's maybe a certain something you've been wanting and you'd like to trade!
oops and by for me, i mean with me!
ReplyDeleteWhen you put the top coat on the suede or satin polishes, they take on unique look. I would love it for a pedicure. I also liked how "Here today ... Arragon tomorrow" looked with a topcoat.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Jim! Those Suede's and Matte's really POP when you add a top coat! It's kinda like you get two different colors in one bottle! I'm all about getting more for your money! I'm wondering if OPI will stop producing Matte's and Suede's, though. I seem to only find them in the clearance bin at Ulta! So sad!
ReplyDeleteI think this dark, dark gray-black would be a fabulous alternative to the typical black creme base to layer glitter polishes over. What a great color!
